Books

Members and affiliates of the Laffer Center have produced over a dozen books in the tradition of supply-side economics and policy. Most recently, Dr. Arthur Laffer, with Dr. Brian Domitrovic and Jeanne Sinquefield, has written a comprehensive statement of his view on American tax policy in the form of an encompassing history of the income tax since its inception in 1913. Taxes Have Consequences: An Income Tax History of the United States, released in September 2022, is perhaps the fullest statement of Arthur Laffer’s views to date on the impact of taxes on the economy.

Dr. Arthur Laffer’s first book was Private Short-Term Capital Flows (1975). This was based on Dr. Laffer’s Stanford University economics doctoral dissertation of 1972. Next came a series of textbooks, edited collections, and explanations of current challenges. In the 2010s, two books of the latter category became widely cited—and their lessons widely considered when not adopted. These were Eureka: How to Fix California (co-authored with Wayne Winegarden) and the New York Times bestseller An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of States (co-authored with Stephen Moore, Rex Sinquefield, and Travis Brown).
